McDonalds is one of the most easily identified and recognised brands in the world, with restaurants and representation in many countries globally.
McDonalds were looking for an advertorial solution that included the development of a puzzle microsite. The solution would also present various banner advertisements for the McDonald’s Ice age 3 movie promotion.
Newpath WEB were required as part of this project to provide custom application development for a puzzle/game based website solution. The site was to contain a game with puzzle pieces being part of the McDonald’s treasure hunt puzzle.
There were 9 pieces of the puzzle. Each image in the puzzle was associated with a banner ad contained across a number of network websites. When a user clicked on a banner ad, the system activated an event and highlighted associated images within the puzzle.
The puzzle once complete allowed the user to fill in their details, download a promotional code, and use this to claim a price at a McDonalds store.
The Application was integrated with a secure back end management console, allowing for reports to be generated, and captured data to be downloaded.
The solution made use of cookies from user PC’s to remember puzzle pieces highlighted.
The solution ran for a period of months throughout the campaign and was a significant success.
